So I don’t really know what to do and I feel like I can’t let this just sit in my head like this but last night I found this video on accident. There’s only like 20 views.
From what I can gather with the facebook page he linked in the description, a post about him on an indonesia expat forum, and one small Jakarta article someone wrote is that essentially this guy moved to indonesia in 2012, got a small teaching job to get by, got married and had a kid. 2013 he was diagnosed with ALS, wife left him, lost his job, used his money to pay for his hospital bills. now hes living in some room with a person that tries and takes care of him for free. hes so far in ALS that the embassy went from “it’ll take 30k to fly you back with medical help” to “300k” or so because its that far in.
The embassy cant pay for it. his visa is expired but they cant deport him because its that expensive. In the past he tried to set up donation pages but I believe GoFundMe doesn’t support Indonesia so that can’t work. I know he has a son in the US but as far as I can tell ties have been cut. Nobody in the US will claim him either.
I don’t know how to set up donation pages or anything to help other than just posting what I know. I just feel like it’s something to give awareness about at the least.
boosting this again, and wanted to add that his site goes over his struggles with feeling alone and that he enjoys having company, maybe anyone reading this could shoot him a friendly facebook message and let him know you’re thinking about him.
I don’t usually reblog these types of things but this entire situation has been eating me alive. Nobody wants to die alone, I can’t imagine how terrified he is, how terrified he’s been. There’s not much anybody can do right now but maybe as this spreads options will open up, and like eddiemurphy said. Maybe shoot him a message on Facebook to let him know he’s not alone
Yeah when i saw this last night I reached out to him over facebook just to I guess try and reduce his sense of alienation and loneliness and he seemed to really appreciate it,
So yeah, please just shoot him a simple facebook message to let him know that he’s not truly alone as there’s a bunch of people worrying about him, and like he said, just continue to share his story, spread awareness. Something that has been really getting at me, well I mean the whole thing is… fuck, but one specific thing was this on his site- What is going to happen when George dies? The US Embassy has stated that they will be turning George’s body over to the Indonesian authorities to be disposed of in whatever manner they see fit, which will most likely be burial in a pauper’s grave. George has expressed a desire to be cremated and sent back to his son in America, but with no one in America willing to claim his remains, it appears that his wishes will not be accommodated.
It , really fucking unfortunately, looks like George is going to be stuck in
Indonesia until he dies, just because of the amount of money it will take to get him back to the states. So if that’s the case, does anyone know of anything we can do to make it so that his wishes are respected and gets cremated and sent back to his son? The thought of him having his final resting place alone and away from loved ones is so scary.
