EMOTIONAL ABUSE

kitty-pawz:

Lots of people talk about physical abuse, but what about emotional abuse? Emotional abuse AKA mental abuse, is when a person or people treat someone poorly enough to create the same psychological feelings as physical abuse. (Fear, depression, trauma…)

Some examples of emotional abuse are:
~ degrading comments/insults towards you
~ constantly pushing aside your opinion like it doesn’t matter
~ using sarcasm and jokes to put you down in harsh ways
~ belittling or crushing your accomplishments or goals
~ doing things to you that they would hate if you did to them
~ making excuses and never apologizing
~ putting the blame on you and making you feel like it’s your fault
~ abandoning//ignoring you in order to “punish” you
~ humiliating you in front of others
~ threatening you in order to get what they want

Examples of someone who has been emotionally abused:
~ constant apologizing
~ hiding their feelings in fear of upsetting you
~ breaking down during small disagreements because they’re scared it will get bigger
~ low self-esteem due to insults
~ needing lots of reassurance

Funds for Student Web Series

Hey Tumblr! My name’s Iman and while I mostly use this blog to shed tears over Thomas Hardy, I do on occasion post personal updates on things I’m currently working on or am apart of.

As some of you may know (for those who follow me) I’m in the midst of pre-production for a web series that’s set to film in Chicago, IL the week of June 4th, 2017.

The series titled SEEDS is a web-series centered around the conversations of young, college-aged black women and bridges the gap between adolescence and adulthood. It’s a series written by a black woman, directed by a black woman, and produced by a Muslim woman (me) with an almost entirely female-led crew, which is rather unique to the film industry.

While we previously started an IndieGoGo campaign to raise funds for the production (you can view our original campaign here), renting camera, grip and sound equipment, setting aside funds for props/production design, crew meals, and other vital costs, has us cutting it very close on our budget.

So, tumblr, this is where you come in! I am hoping some of my awesome followers & friends can share and/or generously donate any amount towards the production. Be it $1, $5, any dollar helps.

The plan for the series once post-production is well underway is to begin using some of these funds towards submitting the series to festivals such as SeriesFest for an exclusive premiere before releasing it online to friends & fans alike.

A little background about me so you know this request is legitimate; I’m a producer based in Illinois (you can find my IMDb here). I have worked in the industry since 2013 working on some pretty amazing productions. The crew we’ve got attached are a mix of industry professionals and film students from DePaul and Columbia college, with professional working actors headlining our cast.

Our amazing screenwriter and creator behind the entire project, Deja, talks a little more about the web series here:

If you’re interested in donating to this project, please find our paypal below:

http://paypal.me/seedsseries

If you’re unable to donate, please consider reblogging and sharing this as much as possible. As we near the filming date of June 4, 2017 we’re working at full capacity to ensure every dollar raised gets us not only through production but post-production as well.

Please consider supporting us in some way, we’re incredibly grateful for every share, reblog, or repost about it.

Thank you and have a blessed day!

Credits & Social Media

We’ve gotten some donations so far and we are beyond thankful for those who have donated! I want to add a quick note that all donors will be receiving a ‘Special Thanks’ Credit.

Please send me a message via this tumblr account and I will send you my email to send me your full name or how you would like to be credited on IMDb.

If the donation is large enough you will be receiving an ‘Executive Producer’ credit.

Additionally, if you’d like to keep up with us on social media please follow our instagram & twitter account for updates as we embark on this journey!

Thank you for the support thus far and for sharing! We’re really moved by your guys’ generosity.

On behalf of the entire SEEDS team: thank you. Without the amazing support & love, none of this could happen.

PLEASE DONATE TO MY GOOD FRIEND IMAN AND HELP HER MAKE HER SHOW!! She is amazing!!!

According to the CDC, in 10 percent of those drownings, the adult will actually watch the child do it, having no idea it is happening. Drowning does not look like drowning—Dr. Pia, in an article in the Coast Guard’s On Scene magazine, described the Instinctive Drowning Response like this:

  1. “Except in rare circumstances, drowning people are physiologically unable to call out for help. The respiratory system was designed for breathing. Speech is the secondary or overlaid function. Breathing must be fulfilled before speech occurs.
  2. Drowning people’s mouths alternately sink below and reappear above the surface of the water. The mouths of drowning people are not above the surface of the water long enough for them to exhale, inhale, and call out for help. When the drowning people’s mouths are above the surface, they exhale and inhale quickly as their mouths start to sink below the surface of the water.
  3. Drowning people cannot wave for help. Nature instinctively forces them to extend their arms laterally and press down on the water’s surface. Pressing down on the surface of the water permits drowning people to leverage their bodies so they can lift their mouths out of the water to breathe.
  4. Throughout the Instinctive Drowning Response, drowning people cannot voluntarily control their arm movements. Physiologically, drowning people who are struggling on the surface of the water cannot stop drowning and perform voluntary movements such as waving for help, moving toward a rescuer, or reaching out for a piece of rescue equipment.
  5. From beginning to end of the Instinctive Drowning Response people’s bodies remain upright in the water, with no evidence of a supporting kick. Unless rescued by a trained lifeguard, these drowning people can only struggle on the surface of the water from 20 to 60 seconds before submersion occurs.”

This doesn’t mean that a person that is yelling for help and thrashing isn’t in real trouble—they are experiencing aquatic distress. Not always present before the Instinctive Drowning Response, aquatic distress doesn’t last long—but unlike true drowning, these victims can still assist in their own rescue. They can grab lifelines, throw rings, etc.

Look for these other signs of drowning when persons are in the water:

  • Head low in the water, mouth at water level
  • Head tilted back with mouth open
  • Eyes glassy and empty, unable to focus
  • Eyes closed
  • Hair over forehead or eyes
  • Not using legs—vertical
  • Hyperventilating or gasping
  • Trying to swim in a particular direction but not making headway
  • Trying to roll over on the back
  • Appear to be climbing an invisible ladder

So if a crew member falls overboard and everything looks OK—don’t be too sure. Sometimes the most common indication that someone is drowning is that they don’t look like they’re drowning. They may just look like they are treading water and looking up at the deck. One way to be sure? Ask them, “Are you all right?” If they can answer at all—they probably are. If they return a blank stare, you may have less than 30 seconds to get to them. And parents—children playing in the water make noise. When they get quiet, you get to them and find out why.

BOOST FOR THE SUMMER. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.

Tbh I’m rly surprised this site hardly mentions (if not never mentions AT ALL) Jacqueline Wilson

For those who don’t know, she’s a British author for books such as The Illustrated Mum, My Sister Jodie ans the Tracy Beaker series. Her books often revolve around, as her Google page says, ‘themes of adoption, divorce and mental illness’ and is thus very controversial. I for one am on the side who thinks her books are fantastic and a great portrayal of real life problems.

Even though I haven’t finished reading it yet, one of my favourite books by her so far is The Diamond Girls. The story (from the little bit I’ve read and heard of so far) is about a young girl called Dixie, who lives with her mum, who’s very sort of ‘spiritual’ and believes in tarot cards, as well as her three other sisters WHO ALL CAME FROM DIFFERENT FATHERS. Each have a different personality and their own problems and they end up moving to another house because the mother is about to have another baby and it’s just a really good portrayal of (in this case, slightly) broken families and divorce and mental illness (I believe Dixie has some form of autism honestly)

Anyway, what I wanna say is that Jacqueline Wilson is a very smart and talented writer who delves into the darker and more realistic side of life and she portrays them wonderfully. She’s 71 right now so I don’t know if she’s still writing, but I highly recommend you guys give her books a read if you’re in a tough situation involving divorce or mental illnesses right now.
