Tag: Be More Chill
Remember when I said I’m in a new fandom? Yeah lol
So who here knows Be More Chill? Probably a few. I’m dying over how good this musical is, like SO MUCH and the fandom make some amazing art (my friend’s art of this actually introduced me to the fandom). A common thing in the fandom is that people draw the characters like the actors who played them, but the writer for the play said that people can experiment with anything that’s not in the script, meaning that the designs can go from one thing to a completely different thing. My designs may be slightly different from most fandom designs, and I’ll explain why
Jeremy (Far left): Overall, the design I went with was Will Connolly’s depiction of Jeremy, with the messy hair and the outfit, but I didn’t want to leave Will Roland out of it, either, so I included a tooth gap (Will Roland has buck teeth but I wanted to save the buck teeth for someone else) and sometimes the need to wear glasses, which I know is cheap but whatever ol
Michael: George Salazar plays Michael for both of the main productions, so there wasn’t really much to change in terms of designs. I gave him a fringe (bangs) and a danging earring but other then that not much else
Christine: Stephanie Hsu also plays Christine for both of the main productions, so there wasn’t much to change for her either. I did, however, give her an autism awareness pin because I headcanon that she’s autistic
Rich: Yet again, Gerard Canonico plays Rich in both of the main productions, so there wasn’t much else to add here, either. I gave him painted nails, though, and HE’S the one with buck teeth. You just can’t see them
Jake: Now, Jake’s been played by Jake Boyd in the original production, but is now played by Britton Smith. One is white, the other is black. I didn’t wanna completely ignore Jake Boyd’s work as Jake, so I decided to mix the two and make Jake biracial. The peach part in his hair is meant to represent the frosted tips Jake Boyd had, and the tattoo really isn’t from anything, I just thought it would work for him. Also you probably can’t see but he has freckles
Chloe: Yet another returning actress, Katlyn Carlson. Not a lot really changed with her compared to other designs, but I gave her a headband. It kinda makes her look really 80s lol
Brooke: Now, Brooke’s an interesting case. Her actress from the original production, Lauren Marcus, returned, but since her original role, she’s suffered from alopecia and has lost her hair. She wears a wig in the show now, but I wanted to incorporate the alopecia in some way, so I decided to make her hair short and have her wear a cap like Lauren usually does. Also, I felt that the blue lacing on her shirt was too complicated, so I decided to make it a pattern on her shirt. On a side note, she looks like a female hip hop artists from the 90s and I love it
Jenna: Jenna is another person who’s actress changed, and who’s old actress was white and new actress is black, so I did the same thing with her as I did Jake and made her biracial. Her clothes are more based on Katie Ladner’s version of Jenna, but her hair is more based on Tiffany Mann’s version of Jenna. The purple streaks in her hair are a reference to the fact that Kadie Ladner had a red streak in her hair, but Tiffany Mann’s entire hair being purple. I decided to combine the two
That’s pretty much it. My hands feel like they’re gonna fall off of my arms and I’m ready to draw more of these guys. Woo
